Atlanta Gas Light partnered with Rinnai to donate more than 470 energy efficient tankless water heaters to the Macon Housing Authority. The Macon Housing Authority will be the first in the state to participate in this project with Atlanta Gas Light to upgrade a major housing neighborhood with brand new energy efficient natural gas tankless water heaters.
"Atlanta Gas Light is committed to making smart investments in our communities with options for our customers that meet their natural gas energy needs,” said Angela Grant, energy solutions manager for Atlanta Gas Light. “The Macon Housing Authority is leading the way in the state of Georgia to make a difference in their resident’s livelihood and Atlanta Gas Light is here to ensure that they and every customer, whether at home or running a business, has the natural gas resources they need to thrive."
Energy Efficiency upgrade
With the installation of the Rinnai tankless water heaters, residents will save space and now have an energy efficient source with an endless supply of hot water allowing them to also enjoy a lower energy bills. According to the U.S Department of Energy, a natural gas tankless water heater lowers energy costs around $100 per year and for homes that use 41 gallons or less of hot water daily, demand (or tankless) water heaters can be 24% to 34% more energy efficient than conventional storage tank water heaters.
“The Macon Housing Authority is always looking at innovative ways to better assist our residents and maintain our properties at the most efficient way possible-now more than ever with this inflationary environment we’re in,” said Kathleen Mathews, special programs director with the Macon Housing Authority. “Thanks to AGL and Rinnai, we can accomplish both feats and modernize our properties with the latest energy efficient appliances that will last longer than what we’ve had previously.”
New lease on life
In addition to monetary savings, other major benefits included:
- Eliminated hot water complaints
- Reduced resident turnover
- The new water heaters are less likely to fail and cause flooding as traditional tank water heaters
- Tankless water heaters save space
- The average lifespan of the new tankless water heaters is about twice that of the existing water heaters
Tankless water heaters were installed in three Macon Housing Authority communities. With the upgraded units and other renovations completed, Davis, Mounts, and Murphey homes are considered as some of the most desirable public housing in the state.
